One Walk Nottingham 2025

We're stronger together

I’m taking part in One Walk Nottingham to help raise money to fund life-changing research and make a difference to the lives of people affected by type 1!

Breakthrough T1D funds world-class research, supports the T1D community and campaigns for broader NHS provision of treatments and technologies. Their collaborations with the best researchers in the world have led to new developments in diabetes technology and treatment.

This is where you come in. With your support and your generous donations, we can fund Breakthrough T1D’s important work.

Just £20 could help towards the next big T1D breakthrough.

Whatever you can donate, it is really appreciated - Thank you!

Your support to my challenge has helped me provide:

287

minutes of Breakthrough T1D research bringing us closer to a cure for T1D.

OR

143

printed copies of Breakthrough T1D's Straight to the Point guide. It covers vital information for anyone living with T1D to help manage the condition.

OR

11

children to have an initial screening test to help to detect T1D in its earliest stages to prevent un-diagnosed complications.

My Updates

Thank you

Saturday 5th Apr
I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on 13th April 2021 at the age of 54. At the back of my mind I knew I had diabetes but had no idea adults could get type 1 until I was so unwell I was hospitalised and tests showed I had the antibodies. There’s so much disinformation and stigma around all types of diabetes and organisations such as breakthrough t1d do an amazing job to raise awareness and provide support to people like myself.
Type 1 is autoimmune, my antibodies attacked the insulin making cells in my pancreas, probably after I’d had a virus of some sort and I also have hypothyroidism which is also autoimmune.
Type 1 Diabetes is a constant struggle to keep myself alive, juggling carbs, insulin and life. This year I was lucky enough to be fitted with an insulin pump and Dexcom G7 CGM (hybrid closed loop) and that’s been such a game changer. It’s still hard work, it’s definitely not a cure but diabetes takes up less headspace than before AND I know what it’s like to sleep through the night again.
If you made it this far without getting bored thank you and if you donate then thank you so much, you’re amazing!!!
