One Walk London 2025

We're stronger together

I’m taking part in One Walk London to help raise money to fund life-changing research and make a difference to the lives of people affected by type 1!

Breakthrough T1D funds world-class research, supports the T1D community and campaigns for broader NHS provision of treatments and technologies. Their collaborations with the best researchers in the world have led to new developments in diabetes technology and treatment.

This is where you come in. With your support and your generous donations, we can fund Breakthrough T1D’s important work.

Just £20 could help towards the next big T1D breakthrough.

Whatever you can donate, it is really appreciated - Thank you!

Your support to my challenge has helped me provide:

200

minutes of Breakthrough T1D research bringing us closer to a cure for T1D.

OR

100

printed copies of Breakthrough T1D's Straight to the Point guide. It covers vital information for anyone living with T1D to help manage the condition.

OR

8

children to have an initial screening test to help to detect T1D in its earliest stages to prevent un-diagnosed complications.

Our motivation

Wednesday 9th Apr
Our family are walking the 10k One Walk London to raise money to better the lives of children and adults with Type 1 Diabetes, and the ultimate goal of finding a cure.

Our eldest daughter, Mia, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when she was 11 years old after we noticed her symptoms of going to the toilet very often, being very thirsty, eventually feeling very poorly and lethargic and losing weight. She spent 4 days in hospital getting the help she needed, whilst we trained in how to look after our little girl and keep her safe.
The diagnosis changed the way we live our daily lives and still does today and always will. Having Type 1 Diabetes is a minute by minute balancing act of blood sugars affected by food, exercise, stress, temperatures and a whole lot more, and is a constant stress and worry. Mia struggles and doesn't always apply everything we know perfectly but she certainly does her best and what is manageable for a teenager trying to fit in and she's a little hero for what she has to deal with.
Mia now wears two devices, a sensor to read her blood sugars without having to finger prick, and an insulin pump to replace the minimum 4 daily injections she was on initially, which are two amazing, although not perfect, pieces of technology which undoubtedly make her life a little easier. It is charities like Breakthrough T1D who conduct the research which allows technology like this and perhaps one day they might find a cure.

We would appreciate anything you can donate.
