What time do I need to arrive?

Registration is from 06:30am with the hike starting promptly at 07:00am. The team will be on site from 06:15am for any supporters who arrive early.

Is there an age limit?

Yes, Participants must all be 16 years or older. Anyone under 18 must have hill walking experience and be accompanied by an adult.

How long does the Trek take?

Approximately 12 hours. 

Is there a time limit?

Yes. Participants who don’t make it to halfway up the mountain before a certain time will be sent back down to the event site for their own safety. 12 hours is the maximum amount of time we can allow participants to finish the hike.

Can I bring my dog?

Dogs are not permitted for this event.

Will Breakthrough T1D provide lunch and water?

Lunch will not be provided. We advise you to bring lots of food as it is a very long duration of exercise. Breakthrough T1D will provide some small snacks for you to take on the trek with you.
We advise you to bring enough water for the day for all in your group.

Can I sign up a large group?

Of course! We welcome anyone who wants to come along and support on the day!

Please note that all under 18's must be accompanied by an adult (adult to child ratio at least 2:1) and minimum age is 16 years old, and all must have hill climbing experience

What if I need to withdraw? Can I get a refund?

If you need to withdraw, please email events@breakthrought1d.org.uk with your name and reason. Unfortunately, we can’t offer any refunds, but we may be able to transfer you to another event. 

Preparing for event day

What’s the route?

Starting from Horton-in-Ribblesdale, we will tackle Ingleborough (2,372ft) as the first peak, then Whernside (2,415ft) and Pen-Y-Ghent (2,277ft), finishing back at Horton-in-Ribblesdale.

Do you advise training?

We aren’t trained professionals but we do advise you train for this event to ensure you are of the fitness level required to complete the climb. 

Will there be guides?

Yes. Guides are being provided by Large Outdoors. All guides are very experienced with an abundance of knowledge to help you summit the peak!

Fundraising

How do I fundraise?

Once you have registered, you will automatically have a fundraising page created through the online platform Funraisin. Fundraising online is the easiest way to hit your targets as your family, friends and colleagues can donate quickly and securely to your total.

How does my fundraising make a difference?

At Breakthrough T1D, we are dedicated to eradicating type 1 diabetes. By raising money for Breakthrough T1D , you are helping to fund pioneering research which has lead to new developments in diabetes technology and treatment with the ultimate goal of finding a cure. 

Breakthrough T1D also works with policy makers to improve availability of treatments, as well as supporting the type 1 community with information and resources to help them manage their condition.
