OR

children to have an initial screening test to help to detect T1D in its earliest stages to prevent un-diagnosed complications.

400,000 people are currently living with type 1 diabetes in the UK, including my daughter Victoria. I want to help change that.

I have registered for the Virtual Triathlon, an challenge for Breakthrough T1D (the type 1 diabetes charity). From 1 February to 29 March, I will be swimming, cycling and running towards a cure for type 1 diabetes (T1D).

Breakthrough T1D funds world-class research, supports the T1D community and campaigns for broader NHS provision of treatments and technologies. Their collaborations with the best researchers in the world have led to new developments in diabetes technology and treatment.

This is where you come in. With your support and your generous donations, we can fund Breakthrough T1D’s important work. Just £20 could help towards the next big T1D breakthrough. Whatever you can donate, it is really appreciated.

Mission complete!

Tuesday 1st Apr
I'm happy and proud to say I completed the Virtual Triathalon! What a journey! At first, it felt like a challenge that was easily attainable with the time allotted. Yet time on holiday and on other things, meant that it was more challenging to complete than I thought, particularly the cycling. Cycling has never been my favourite exercise in the gym, yet I managed to squeeze it all in just in time! Ironincally it was the swimming I left to the end, but 25 lengths later, it was done!
I am hugely proud to have raised £1,224 (+Gift Aid) so far, which is beyond my expectations and really makes it worth the effort! Thank you to all those who sponsored me so generously, it means a lot.
Science and tech is making great strides and only hope that one day soon, all the T1 warriors out there will have better solutions to managing their T1D, or indeed, we get to the holy grail of a cure. Breakthrough T1D is helping towards that goal, so was only too happy to help and support.
Looking forward to the next challenge idc...!

Half Iron Man to a Full Iron Man

Wednesday 5th Feb
Having been overwhelmed by the support I've had from friends and family, I've decided to up the challenge in two ways:

1) I've increased my fundraising target to £1,000!
2) Having had a positive start to the challenge, I've decided to go for the FULL Iron Man Triathlon challenge!

So that's:
 - Swim: 2.4 miles (3.9 km)
 - Cycle: 112 miles (180.2 km)
 - Run: 26.2 miles (42.2 km)

Thank you again for the support and wish me luck!

My daughter Victoria

Saturday 1st Feb
Just days before my daughter Victoria's 8th birthday, we had to rush her to hospital. She spent her 8th birthday in hospital having being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. It came out of nowhere and broke our hearts. But kids are resilient and the support from her NHS diabetes team and treatments are amazing. But I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Medical advancements are rapid and hope it's bright for the future. I know Victoria will see the result of these advancements and can't wait for the day when she can live a more normal life. This is my contribution towards that research and her future. I hope my friends and family will support me in searching for a brighter future for all those with Type 1 diabetes. Thank you for your support🙏🏻
