Sherief and Gillian took on last year's Virtual Triathlon challenge in support of their two children Joseph (diagnosed with type 1 in November 2019 age 11) and Amelia (diagnosed December 2023 also age 11). Joseph and Amelia are Breakthrough T1D superstars who since 2020 raised over £5,000 taking on various challenges for Breakthrough T1D. Last year, Sherief and Gillian decided it was their turn and raised over £7,000!

Gillian shared; ‘It's no secret that I am not the best athlete in the family but supporting 2 children with type 1 diabetes has made me more determined than ever to support Breakthrough T1D in their mission of a world without type 1. There is currently no cure, but because of the work of Breakthrough T1D. the technology to help manage the condition is improving all the time which leads to a far better quality of life for the 400,000 people in the UK alone living with T1D’

Marcus, who is 9 years old, is excited to take part in the Breakthrough T1D Virtual Triathlon to raise money for the scientists working on a cure. He’s passionate about helping to "smash" T1D for good. For Marcus, a cure would mean no more finger pricks, no more waiting for insulin to kick in, and no more hypos. He dreams of a future where his body does everything for him, giving him more freedom to focus on other things and be spontaneous—especially when it comes to his true passion: sport and exercise. Right now, everything requires preparation and planning, but with a cure, he could be free to pursue his love for sports without the extra steps. Marcus is looking forward to the challenge, believing it will be fun and give him a great sense of achievement. He also hopes it will inspire other children with T1D, showing them that nothing is impossible and that T1D won't stand in the way of achieving their dreams.

Morgan is taking part in the Breakthrough T1D Virtual Triathlon Challenge to support a cause that hits close to home—both her mother and little brother have T1D.  Her mum was recently diagnosed, while his brother has been living with the condition since he was just 5 years old. Morgan has seen firsthand how much the technology has improved over the years, along with the incredible support and knowledge shared with new families facing T1D diagnosis. She recognizes that none of this would be possible without the dedication and hard work of those who fundraise and support the T1D community across the UK. By participating in the challenge, Morgan wants to do her part to give back, as the support her family has received has made a huge difference. Even after years of living with diabetes, they know that whenever something goes wrong, there's always someone ready to help and offer guidance.
