Frankie-Blu’s Type 1 Diabetes Story

Frankie-Blu’s Life with type 1 diabetes

Friday 13th Feb

When Frankie was just three years old, our world changed so quickly.

He became very poorly so suddenly. He was losing drastic amounts of weight, not eating, constantly sleeping, and at times was hardly able to walk. We rushed him to hospital, terrified and not knowing what was happening — only to be told something no parent wants to hear: Frankie has Type 1 Diabetes.

It was one of the scariest moments of our lives. We didn’t know how we were going to cope. We didn’t know how this would affect Frankie. He went from being a happy little boy with no cares in the world to needing constant insulin injections every single day. His blood sugars spike and drop without warning — one minute he can be absolutely fine, and the next he feels extremely unwell, and he doesn’t always understand why. But even through all of this, Frankie amazed us. He began helping with his own injections, showing bravery far beyond his years. He has always shown such courage, and he’s even proud to tell people that he has Type 1 Diabetes. His strength inspires us every single day.

This is a daily challenge he faces with so much bravery.

Thankfully, with the incredible support from our local hospital team, we have come such a long way. Frankie now wears sensors and an insulin pump connected to him, which helps make life that little bit easier and safer. Life and medical technology have developed so much already, and we truly don’t know what the future could bring with just a little bit more help and support.

That’s why I’m trying to raise money for charity — to help fund research and advancements that could create even more ways to support people living with Type 1 Diabetes. We hope that by raising awareness and funds, we can help move things forward so that one day managing Type 1 might be easier, safer, and less overwhelming for children like Frankie.

Every donation, no matter how small, could help make a difference for the future of Type 1 care. Thank you so much for supporting our brave little boy and being part of this journey with us. 💙
