One Walk London 2024

We're stronger together

For my boy, Mason who was diagnosed with Type1 diabetes in May 2023.  See my blog below for why I'm supporting JDRF <3

---------------------------------------------------------------------

I’m taking part in One Walk London to help raise money to fund life-changing research and make a difference to the lives of people affected by type 1!

400,000+ people are currently living with type 1 diabetes in the UK, and with your support and your generous donations, we can fund JDRF UK’s important work towards finding a cure. Here are just a few examples of what your money can do...

Every £10 could help run a research laboratory for 10 minutes - bringing us 10 minutes closer to finding a cure for type 1 diabetes.

Every £25 could pay for an hour of research nurse support for someone involved in a clinical trial, which could ultimately lead to the next big breakthrough. Without this support, there would be no trial.

Every £50 could enable a scientist to use lasers for two hours, allowing them to study the immune cells at the heart of type 1, monitoring the success of clinical trials and further improving knowledge into type 1.

Thank you for your support, whatever you donate is really appreciated. Together, we can help JDRF to eradicate type 1 diabetes!

Walking for Mason

Wednesday 5th Jun
I'm walking to thank JDRF for all that they do and for my precious Type 1 warrior, Mason. He was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes on 11th May 2023 aged 5 (nearly 6). He was not unwell, it was 'just' extreme thirst and weeing a lot that got us to the doctors. At 11:30 am he was at school, 12 at the docs and 1pm we were in hospital with Mason being encouraged to jab himself with insulin for the first time - two separate jabs. Having not felt unwell, it was very confusing, overwhelming and frightening for him (and us). At around the same time the wonderful NHS staff helping us handed Mason a JDRF bag. Inside was information for the whole family but a year on it seems the most important of the contents was Rufus.

Rufus is a bear who also gets insulin injections and has patches to show where he does his injections. He's soft and cuddly and in the same boat as Mason which was and has over the past year often been a comfort to Mason. This is such a small part of what JDRF do but for us Rufus signifies the comfort we feel knowing there are people out there trying to make life easier for Type 1s.

Mason will be on his first Beavers camp and Steve needs to be nearby to help if needed, so, I'll be taking Rufus to do the walk with me 😀

Please donate if you are able, to help the incredible people in JDRF who  changing the lives of people with Type 1 diabetes. If all my friends donated £1 I'd smash my target.
