We're taking part in One Walk Edinburgh (along with as many family members as we can rally!), to help raise money to fund life-changing research and make a difference to the lives of people affected by type 1!

Breakthrough T1D funds world-class research, supports the T1D community and campaigns for broader NHS provision of treatments and technologies. Their collaborations with the best researchers in the world have led to new developments in diabetes technology and treatment.

Emilia's Story

Monday 27th Apr
Emilia was diagnosed with T1D in September 2025 after being admitted to hospital in DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis) which can be life threatening.

Fortunately, Emilia was treated urgently on the childrens ward and received such amazing care. 

It's been a huge learning curve since then and we continue to try and keep learning so we can always do our best for our little girl.

We were given so much support and information from the hospital, including a bag from Breakthrough T1D with Rufus bear in. Rufus and the app helped Emilia understand her diagnosis and it also gave her a way to share all this new information with her big brother through play.

Since diagnosis, Emilia has repeatedly shown  her strength and resilience. She was keen to get straight back to school to be with her friends, and has also continued with horse riding and more recently joined Brownies.

Emilia has an amazing team around her of family, friends, teachers and nurses; we are forever grateful to everybody who has helped and supported her along the way so she can live as normal a childhood as possible.
