Chloe was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was 7 years old. It was a big shock and huge change to all of our lives.
At first she coped with it well, until the reality of realising it was a life long condition set it.
Chloe would have a minimum of 5 insulin injections a day along with around 10 finger pricks.
She would have many scars on her little fingers and bruises on her body from all the injections.
After about a year, Chloe also needed some counselling to come to terms with her condition and also manage her mental wellbeing as how people treated her changed and not always in a nice way.
After a year of counselling Chloe was feeling more positive and also, her time had come on the insulin pump waiting list!
This meant no more multiple daily injections, no more waking in the night to us injecting her, no more interruptions during playtime, no more stares from strangers when out for something to eat, no more comments about needles freaking people out, the list could go on!
The changing technology makes a huge difference people with type 1 diabetes.
As Chloe’s family and friends, we are taking part in One Walk London on Saturday 20th June 2026 and walking 10km to help raise money to fund life-changing research and make a difference to the lives of people affected by type 1 diabetes!
Breakthrough T1D funds world-class research, supports the T1D community and campaigns for broader NHS provision of treatments and technologies. Their collaborations with the best researchers in the world have led to new developments in diabetes technology and treatment.
