Why We’re Walking: Our Daughter’s Journey with Type 1 Diabetes
When our daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at just five years old, our world changed overnight. What had been a carefree childhood quickly became one filled with finger pricks, insulin injections, carb counting and constant vigilance. As any parent of a child with T1D will understand, there are no days off, every meal, every activity, every night brings new challenges.
Now, at 11 years old, she continues to face this condition with a resilience and bravery that inspires us every single day. Behind the scenes, though, managing Type 1 Diabetes is relentless. It’s the late night checks, the worry over blood sugar highs and lows, and the constant balancing act just to keep things steady. Despite all of this, she shows up to life with determination, humour and strength, and we couldn’t be prouder.
That’s why we’re taking part in a fundraising walk for Breakthrough T1D.
Breakthrough T1D is dedicated to funding life changing research, improving treatments, and ultimately working towards a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. While technology and care have advanced, there is still so much more to be done to ease the daily burden and, one day, to prevent this condition entirely.
For us, this isn’t just about raising money, it’s about raising hope.
Every step we take is for our daughter, and for the thousands of children and families across the UK living with T1D. It’s for better treatments, fewer complications, and a future where no child has to live with this condition.
If you’re able to support us, through a donation or simply by sharing our story, it would mean the world to our family. Together, we can help drive the research and breakthroughs that are so desperately needed.
Thank you for being part of our journey, and for helping turn steps into progress.
