Sophie’s daughter, Bella, was diagnosed with #type1diabetes in June 2023.

Sophie says ‘A few scary days in hospital and a lot of ups and downs later we are learning to live with T1. It really is a steep learning curve, there was so much information to take on and it’s so critical when it’s your child’s health in your hands it feels like an enormous weight. There are so many decisions, calculations, managing physical pain and mental health, on top of sleepless nights. Keeping on top of the medical supplies, snacks and device change dates in an already busy life with 2 jobs and 3 children is a task in itself. Breakthrough T1D provided us with valuable resources at diagnosis, clearly laid out literature and an informative and easy to navigate website, we even used the school pack to educate the teaching staff at Bella’s school. The email updates about the current research developments really give us hope about an easier way of life for Bella in the future or the holy grail a cure for T1. So we hold Breakthrough T1D in high regard and its been a pleasure to get involved with JDRFs fundraising.’

Since then, Sophie and her family have come together and raised over £8,500 for Breakthrough T1D by taking part in various fundraising events, including our 400,000 step challenge!
