One Walk London 2024

We're stronger together

James and I are taking part in One Walk London to help raise money to fund life-changing research and make a difference to the lives of people affected by type 1!

400,000+ people are currently living with type 1 diabetes in the UK, and with your support and your generous donations, we can fund JDRF UK’s important work towards finding a cure. Here are just a few examples of what your money can do...

Every £10 could help run a research laboratory for 10 minutes - bringing us 10 minutes closer to finding a cure for type 1 diabetes.

Every £25 could pay for an hour of research nurse support for someone involved in a clinical trial, which could ultimately lead to the next big breakthrough. Without this support, there would be no trial.

Every £50 could enable a scientist to use lasers for two hours, allowing them to study the immune cells at the heart of type 1, monitoring the success of clinical trials and further improving knowledge into type 1.

Thank you for your support, whatever you donate is really appreciated. Together, we can help JDRF to eradicate type 1 diabetes!

My Updates

He did it!

Monday 24th Jun
Thank you so much to everyone who has donated. Saturday’s walk was a fantastic, uplifting event that really celebrated the T1D community. We met so many lovely people and had the best day.

Representing at sports day

Wednesday 19th Jun
As a member of St Andrew’s house at school, James had to wear blue for sports day - and chose his One Walk T-shirt to help drum up some last-minute support for Saturday. Excellent training done on the space hopper as well.

Meet Rufus

Tuesday 11th Jun
Meet Rufus. He lives with Type 1 diabetes and has patches on his tummy, arms, legs and bottom to show children where they can inject their insulin. Rufus is given to newly-diagnosed children, and is not only a brilliant educational tool but also a much-needed comfort and friend in those early days in hospital when your world has been turned completely upside down. Donations to JDRF can help send Rufus to more children at this scary time, to show that he is just like them, and they are not alone. And that’s not to mention JDRF’s incredible research that can make their lives as easy and healthy as possible going forward.

Diabetes Week

Tuesday 11th Jun
This week is Diabetes Week, aimed at raising awareness of this life long condition.  One of the most important things to be aware of are the 4Ts - which are the main symptoms, particularly for Type 1 diabetes:
Toilet - going for a wee a lot, especially at night.
Thirsty - being really thirsty.
Tired - feeling more tired than usual.
Thinner - losing weight without trying to.

They can come on really quickly, and if you’re worried, speak to your GP. You’ll never be wrong for making sure.

Training in progress!

Monday 3rd Jun
A half term visit to Cumbria resulted in plenty of training! Thank you again for all your support.
