One Walk Cymru 2025

We're stronger together

I’m taking part in One Walk Cymru to help raise money to fund life-changing research and make a difference to the lives of people affected by type 1!

Breakthrough T1D funds world-class research, supports the T1D community and campaigns for broader NHS provision of treatments and technologies. Their collaborations with the best researchers in the world have led to new developments in diabetes technology and treatment.

This is where you come in. With your support and your generous donations, we can fund Breakthrough T1D’s important work.

Just £20 could help towards the next big T1D breakthrough.

Whatever you can donate, it is really appreciated - Thank you!

Your support to my challenge has helped me provide:

701

minutes of Breakthrough T1D research bringing us closer to a cure for T1D.

OR

350

printed copies of Breakthrough T1D's Straight to the Point guide. It covers vital information for anyone living with T1D to help manage the condition.

OR

28

children to have an initial screening test to help to detect T1D in its earliest stages to prevent un-diagnosed complications.

Thank you so much for your amazing, generous donations ❤️!
Oscar is absolutely chuffed that so many people want to support both him and Type 1 Diabetes care and research.

You helped us smash our £150 target, and will now be aiming for £500.
Please share with any friends who may want to donate to help us reach our goal. We will be walking the 5k on Sunday 🙌

Our T1D

Tuesday 27th May

Our amazing Oscy was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes back in December.

Our whole world changed overnight, and he’s dealt with it with a bravery and resilience I could only dream of.

Over the past few months, our incredible 10 year old has had to learn a very complicated science in order to care for himself.

He’s ridden out the horrible feelings in his brain and body that come from his levels being too high and too low.

He’s performing equations to calculate his insulin doses, and injecting himself 6 times a day.

He understands that sometimes we need to wake him up at night for an injection or sugar and graciously rolls with it.

He’s finding that he needs to navigate standard childhood experiences like sports and playparks and softplay in a new way (with frequent sugar-breaks and parent check-ins).

He’s advocating for himself and teaching his friends about his needs.

Some days he’s heartbroken and angry. And that’s ok. Who would choose this?

Some days he’s unstoppable and I am in awe of how big this little guy’s shoulders are, under everything he’s carrying.

And as parents our job got a whole lot more intense: with extra reasons to worry; a host of appointments to manage; new steps before everything we do in the day; huge emotions to juggle etc etc… but we’ve been supported the whole way by an incredible Diabetes team at the hospital, and Diabetes charities.

So as a family we are doing the Breakthrough T1D UK 5K walk to help raise money for Diabetes research and to help other children receive the support Oscar has had.

It would mean a lot if you could sponsor us 🥰
