💙 George’s Sponsored Walk for Breakthrough T1D 💙

This Diabetes Awareness Month (November), our amazing George is taking on a sponsored walk to raise money for Breakthrough T1D.

George was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in April 2026, after becoming extremely poorly and going into DKA. It was one of the scariest experiences we have ever been through.

Type 1 Diabetes is life-changing. It means insulin, injections, blood sugar checks, alarms, highs, lows and constant decision-making — every single day. It is something George will live with for the rest of his life, and watching your child go through it is incredibly frightening.

But something that brought George so much comfort in those first difficult weeks was his Rufus bear. 🧸💙

Rufus gave George something familiar to hold onto when everything around him was suddenly so unfamiliar. He was able to practise giving injections on Rufus in his bed, which helped make the real injections a little less scary.

Rufus has remained a huge source of comfort for George, and we will treasure him forever.

A Rufus bear costs around £10, and George would love to use his sponsored walk to raise enough money to help provide Rufus bears to other children newly diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, so that they can have the same comfort and reassurance that helped him.

George knows first-hand how scary those first days can be, and he wants to help make things just a little bit easier for another child. 💙
