Breakthrough T1D funds world-class research, supports the T1D community and campaigns for broader NHS provision of treatments and technologies. Their collaborations with the best researchers in the world have led to new developments in diabetes technology and treatment.

Why?

My husband Alan was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when he was 44. For a long time, doctors weren't sure whether to believe that he did indeed have Type 1 as this usually presents when someone is much younger. Type 1 was finally confirmed about 4 years ago. Until February this year, managing hypos was never a serious concern, as Alan would be acutely aware that his blood sugar was low and he would head for the choccy biscuits cupboard. In February, his hypo radar suffered a big fail, and he ended up in A & E. Sooooo, we've both decided to step out and take part in this event. Any donations, no matter how wee, will be hugely appreciated X
