One Walk Terms and Conditions

These terms and conditions apply to the following; One Walk Aberdeen, One Walk Belfast, One Walk Bristol, One Walk Cymru, One Walk Falkirk, One Walk Leeds, One Walk London, One Walk Manchester and One Walk West Midlands. Each of the events apply to the term 'Event' referenced throughout this document. 

Breaktrough T1D will hereafter be referred to as 'The Charity'. 

By registering for an Event, you agree to comply with the below. Participants of One Walk should read this document carefully before registering to participate in the Event. The charity reserves the right to update or amend these to reflect necessary changes. Please check this page prior to your Event to familiarise yourself with latest updates as all changes will be binding on all participants and supporters. We reserve the right to ask participants and supporters to leave the Event if they do not adhere to these Rules, and no refunds shall be given in these circumstances. 

All Events are organised by Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Ltd (JDRF) operating as Breakthrough T1D. Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Ltd (JDRF) operating as Breakthrough T1D is a charity registered in England and Wales (No. 295716) and in Scotland (No. SC040123). Participant registration

1. Participants are required to pay the entry fees as below per Event, although we may offer occasional discounts or promotional offers. This fee contributes towards the costs of staging the Event. 

a. Adult (Over 18) £5, Child (5-18) £5, Under 5s Free 

2. Your Event place is not confirmed until payment has been processed and you have received an email from us acknowledging that a place has been allocated to you. 

3. You may register more than yourself but all persons wishing to participate must be registered.  

4. All participants between the ages of 16-17 on the date of the Event must have permission of their legal guardian before registering to participate. 

5. All participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied on the date of the Event, must be accompanied by an adult 18+. The primary entrant should be a legal guardian or have the permission of the additional attendees legal guardian. 

6. Spectators are not permitted to walk the route with participants. If your family members would like to get involved not walking we would love for them to volunteer at the venue or cheering along the route. 

7. We will collect and hold contact details for all participants prior to the Event, in case of an emergency. See the use of your information section for further information. 

8. Event entry will close when the maximum participant capacity is reached, or on the closing date listed on the website Event page, whichever occurs first. 

9. Please note we may use voucher and/or discount codes as part of promotional activity.

10. As part of your registration you will receive your request size One Walk t-shirt in the post. We will be sending out the first batch of t-shirts in March, then weekly running up to the event. We will endeavour to send these out before the event, however we can't take any responsibility for the post being delayed. If you sign up within 2 weeks of the event date you will need to collect your t-shirt on the day.

Fundraising and donations

1. Participants taking part in an Event pledge to raise the minimum fundraising target as listed on the website event page. 

2. All participants have a legal responsibility to ensure that all sponsorship monies/donations received in connection with the Event are paid to the charity. We ask you to do so within 6 weeks of the Event. You can: 

a. Set-up a Funraisin fundraising page to raise money online. 

b. Pay in your sponsorship money with a credit or debit card via the Breakthrough T1D Website, or by calling 020 7713 2030. 

c. Send a cheque payable to Breakthrough T1D UK to the following address with your sponsorship form.

3. Please ensure all donations and/or sponsorship forms that are returned to the above address to enable us to claim Gift Aid where possible. 

4. Hand in any cash or cheque donations on the day of the One Walk which we will process following our cash handling safety procedures.

5. All participants who have raised £150 (excluding Gift Aid) per person before midnight two weeks after their event will be entered into the One Walk Fundraiser prize draw. Prize TBC. See prize draw T&Cs here.

Access

1. We aim to be as inclusive as possible, and our Events are suitable for people of all ages and abilities. 

2. We actively encourage people from all backgrounds and abilities to participate in our Events. We aim to have at least one wheelchair/pushchair accessible route at each Event, though at a small number of events this is not possible. Details on route and site accessibility is listed on the website event pages. 

Cancellations and changes  

1. You may only transfer to another Event with our permission. There are strict capacity limits for each Event, and it is important for the safety of all participants, volunteers, spectators and staff that the Event does not exceed this. 

2. Refunds are available up to 28 days after booking. You can choose to donate your registration fee rather than requesting a refund. After this time the registration fee will be non-refundable. We ask that you notify us as soon as possible if you need or want to withdraw from your Event. 

a. Any requests for the charity to return any fundraising must be communicated to the charity by emailing onewalk@breakthrought1d.org.uk

b. The charity will not be held responsible for the losses or costs incurred from the cancellation of a place. 

3. We reserve the right to reduce or alter Event routes to accommodate any unexpected complications that may have an impact on the charity staff, participants, volunteers, and spectators.

4. In extreme circumstances such as adverse weather or terrorist threats the charity reserves the to cancel or postpone the event for the safety of charity staff, participants, volunteers, and spectators.

Conduct

1. All participants and supporters must abide by these terms and conditions and any rules, instructions or regulations displayed or given on the day of the Event.  

2. Participants are responsible for their own safety during the Event and should carry a charged mobile phone with them which can be used in case of emergency. 

3. We ask participants along with their supporters not to use aggressive or abusive language towards our Event organisers, volunteers and other participants. You should also avoid behaving in a way which may cause injury or harm to other participants and/or spectators. 

4. We ask that participants and supporters not drop litter but instead use the facilities available within the venues and around the route, or take litter home. 

5. We ask that participants be respectful of the local community, residents and/or general public whilst participating in the event. 

6. We ask that participants refrain from using any smoking products. 

7. We ask that participants refrain from consumption of alcohol or illegal substances prior or during the Event. 

8. To confirm whether an Event allows dogs, please visit the relevant Event page on the website. Dogs are the responsibility of the owner and must be kept on leads at all times. 

9. Event routes will be led and marshalled by staff and volunteers, however participants remain responsible for navigating themselves from start to finish. Participants will have access to a route map. 

10. Participants must complete the route before the designated closure time, which will be approximately 2hrs after the stated start time. 

Health, safety and medical 

1. Participants are responsible for ensuring that they are sufficiently fit and healthy to take part in their Event(s). 

2. Notwithstanding the above, we reserve the right to refuse entry to an Event at our absolute discretion, if for whatever reason we consider a person unfit to take part. We may also ask you to withdraw during an Event if we have concerns about your ability to complete it due to fitness, injury or otherwise. If you choose to continue you do so with the understanding that you are no longer considered a participant of the Event and that you absolve us of all and any responsibility, and progress entirely at your own risk. 

3. All Events are non-competitive walks. All routes have been risk-assessed for walking activity only, and to participate by running, cycling, or another means is not permitted. If you do decide to do another activity at the Event which is not walking, then you will not be considered an official participant of the Event. 

4. Participants are responsible for ensuring that they are wearing appropriate attire and footwear when taking part in an Event, taking into account the nature of the Event, the weather forecast and the terrain involved. 

5. All participants must write their emergency contact details on the reverse of their official Event label. 

6. By taking part in an Event, all participants acknowledge that there may be conditions or circumstances beyond our control that can lead to unforeseen risks.

COVID-19 guidance and conduct 

1. Participants must agree to adhere to any government set COVID-19 related guidelines in place at the time of the Event. 

2. If the event is delayed or cancelled due to reasons beyond our control, such as the impacts of COVID-19 Government guidance, or local authority advice at the time of the Event, we will make all reasonable attempts to reschedule the Event, but this cannot be guaranteed. 

Use of your information 

1. By providing your information upon registering for an Event, we will use this information for the purposes of organising, staging and administering the event. Representatives of the Charity may contact you by phone and/or post to discuss your fundraising activity and follow up on your progress.  

2. In case of an emergency, we may also pass personal details provided by you (from either your registration details, or the details on the reverse of your Event label) to the emergency services or health care professionals, and use them for the purposes of contacting your emergency contact. 

3. Your personal information may also be used for the purposes of sending communications to you where you have confirmed that you would like to receive further information about the charity's work when registering for an Event. 

4. All personal data handled by us will be done so in accordance with applicable privacy laws which can be found at https://jdrf.org.uk/policies-and-terms-of-use/privacy-policy/ 

Filming and photography 

1. The Charity and our authorised photographers/videographers may film or photograph persons present at the event and use such footage or photographs to publicise the Event for commercial and/or fundraising purposes including, but not limited to, publications, marketing material, merchandising, personalised direct mail and other documents that may be made available to the public; and (ii) by our third party partners to publicise their involvement and/or association with the Event. 

2. By taking part all participants confirm that they are happy for any video footage or photographs taken during their participation in One Walk to be used by the charity for the above. The Charity will not, however, identify anyone by name without their agreement. There will be an option at registration on the event day to opt out of photographs. Please make yourself known to staff if you would not like your photo taken and you will be provide a wristband to show this.  

3. No personal details (including names) of an under 16-year-old participant will be used in any publicity materials without the written consent of their parent or legal guardian, but we may use images where children are incidentally included.

Liability 

1. All participants, volunteers and spectators enter and attend an Event entirely at their own risk. We shall not be liable for any injury, damage or loss to participants or their property that might occur as a result of their participation or attendance at an Event, other than in respect of any injury or loss arising as a result of our negligence. For the avoidance of doubt, nothing in this clause shall exclude or limit our liability for any liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law.
